One of the greatest hidden gems in the Vindhyan Hills, in Madhya Pradesh, is the Kuno-Palpur Wildlife sanctuary or the Kuno wildlife sanctuary in the Kuno National park. It is an amazing place full of fauna and flora, with rivers, dense green trees, and magical wilderness all around. It is a place that just calling to you to come and explore! It is one of the less-visited sanctuaries so it is more peaceful and it is a great place to enjoy birds, flowers, trees, animals, insects and reptiles. Take some amazing photography shots and soak in the peace being in a wild place like this can bring. You are sure to leave refreshed, amazed and determined to experience it again!
Getting to the Kuno wildlife sanctuary
The closest airport, if you are flying in, is Gwalior Airport which is about 175 km away from the park. From the airport, you can easily hire a rental car to drive the rest of the distance. Or if you prefer you can get on a bus, there are several at regular times that travel from Gwalior to Kuno-Palpur. The closest train station is also in Gwalior so if you are elsewhere in India and heading in by train choose to get off at Gwalior Railway station and then drive or get on a bus the rest of the way to Kuno-Palpur. If you are travelling by car you can head straight there and enjoy the gorgeous scenery along the way.
Enjoy a jungle safari!
You can take your own car into the sanctuary as long as it is not older than 5 years because of the pollution and noise it can cause. Or you can enjoy a jungle safari organised for you by the sanctuary. There are two safaris each day, one at 6am to 9.30am and the others at 4pm to 6pm, the idea being these are the cooler times of the day and when you might see more of the wildlife. Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful way to destress and get away from city life, its fast pace and pollution. Enjoy amazing fauna and flora and great beauty all around you. Just a few examples of some of things you can see and learn about includes;
- Spotted deer
- Indian leopards
- Indian wolves
- Bears
- Black bucks
- Sambhar
- Nilgai
- Monkeys
- Cobra
- Lesser Florican

There are also amazing blooming flowers and verdant trees such as khair, kardhai, kahua and gurjan. With the river Kuno running through Kuno national park there is a place to enjoy cool and clear water so you can see many creatures and plants around the river and take some amazing pictures there.
